Welcome to AP Calculus at Arcadia High School

Arcadia High School's AP Calculus Course is accredited with the College Board organization which administers the AP Calculus exam. The goal of this class is to provide students the curriculum necessary for them to prepare for the AP Calculus AB exam as well as prepare students for college level work. The purpose of this wiki is to provide web based resources for Arcadia High School students taking AP calculus, provide a place for students to interface with one an other and their teacher as they work through difficult calculus problems and finally to provide a place where students can find class assignments.

Arcadia High School's AP calculus class is a rigorous mathematics class whose curriculum mimics first semester calculus classes offered by Universities and Colleges. It is imperative that students complete homework assignments and employ excellent study habits during this course (i.e. students must take responsibility for their learning). The ownership of learning that students develop in this course and other college level courses will provide wonderful preparation for the rigors of college level work.

The AP Calculus AB exam is offered the first Wednesday in May on a yearly basis. The cost of the exam is $85, which is to be paid by the student taking the exam. Assistance is available to those students who qualify for free and reduced school lunch. Students enrolled in this course are not required to take the AP Calculus exam, but those who do not take the exam must take a final exam at the end of the school year.

The pages within this wiki are organized according to mathematics topics (tabs under home at the left) that are covered in the AP Calculus exam. The pages list unit homework problems, links to helpful websites, and helpful hints. The discussion tab at the top of the page will be used for students to provide feedback and discuss assignments with other students and the teacher.

Finally, Calculus is a difficult subject. Communication and collaboration with other students and the teacher greatly enhances each student's ability to master these very difficult concepts. This wiki is one tool for encouraging that communication and collaboration. Class time will also be dedicated to allowing students to work together. Finally, I have extensive tutoring hours before and after school and welcome calls at home when students need assistance. I am at school no later than 7:15 am in the morning and am available until first hour. I am also available after school every day except the first and third Wednesday of the month. My home phone is 539-3687.

Let the learning begin!
